Overcoming her acute shyness Wendy discovers an inner strength within herself and becomes an internationally famous mannequin at the age of 17. She is wined and dined by the world’s rich and famous. She even finds time to steal Ava Gardner’s boyfriend!
At the age of 22 she opens one of the first boutiques in London called Harriet. The stars and the debutantes flocked to have clothes designed by her, stars like Julie Christie, Sandy Shaw, Twiggy and Bianca Jagger. Three years later Harriet moves into wholesale ‘rag trade’ and huge sales around the world followed, with orders from Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales and even Mary Quant for her Bazaar shops!
Moving on to a new venture, Secrets Health and Beauty Salon, Wendy made lots of money with hilarious consequences. Vera Lynn, Silvia Syms, Isla Blair and the whole cast of Tenko. Many BBC stars were clients but their names remain a Secret!
Then, as an interior designer, she acquired many incredible clients including The Merck family, Tom Cruise, manor houses around Wiltshire and Gloucestershire and several Arab Sheiks and their Palaces.
Sketches of curtains for those clients turns into a huge business and a year later Wendy ‘self publishes’ her first book called The Curtain Sketchbook which sold millions around the world. Five more books followed. She was also commissioned to write 2 books for well-known publishers.
